INDIANAPOLIS (ohioriverlax.org) – The NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Committee selected the 42 teams that will compete in this year’s Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship Sunday evening, and Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) champion Transylvania University has been matched up with Rhodes College.
Transylvania (18-1), riding a 16-match winning streak, will travel to Rhodes’ Mason Field in Memphis, Tennessee on Sunday, May 13 for the second round matchup. The time of the opening draw will be announced later this week.
Twenty-nine conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the Division III Championship. Two teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final 11 berths were reserved for Pool C, which includes the remaining institutions in conferences with automatic qualification that are not the conference champion plus remaining independents and members of non-qualifying conferences.
Rhodes (14-3) is making its fourth-straight trip to the Division III Championship as a representative of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). The trip the Division III Championship will be Transylvania’s first.
Top-seeded Transylvania cruised to a 21-2 victory over second-seeded Washington & Jefferson College Saturday in the ORLC Championship Tournament title match at Pat Deacon Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
Rhodes claimed its fourth-straight SAA Tournament Championship April 29 with a 24-14 win over Centre College.
