Anderson University has named Colin McSharar as the school's first women's lacrosse coach.
Most recently, McSharar was the head coach of the women's lacrosse team at Franklin College. Prior to that, he had coaching stints for the men's club team at Butler University and was an assistant coach at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.
McSharar was an all-conference player at Mount St. Joseph.
"I'd like to thank President (John S.) Pistole, (Athletic Director) Marcie Taylor with the task of starting a women's lacrosse program at Anderson University," said McSharar. "I'd also like to thank (Franklin Athletic Director) Kerry Prather for allowing me to live my dream as an NCAA coach. I'm excited to be here and get the ball rolling and grow the game of lacrosse in my home state of Indiana.
"I am looking forward to giving back to the Church of God and continue to diversify the school by bringing recruits in from all over the nation."
McSharar's Franklin club finished 6-7 last season. The AU program will begin competing during the 2018-19 school year. Recently, AU hired Jacob Ashton to become the school's first men's lacrosse coach. The men's program will also start in the '18-'19 school year.
"I'm excited to bring Coach McSharar on board," said Taylor. "Colin's prior coaching and recruiting experience, coupled with a strong desire to mentor student-athletes in their faith makes him uniquely qualified to build the new women's lacrosse program on a strong foundation."
