GREENWOOD, Ind. --- Transylvania and Westminster go 1-0 in ORLC play last week with complete action getting underway this weekend.
ORLC news and notes …
Transylvania University (2-3, 1-0 ORLC) and Westminster (1-2, 1-0 ORLC) each won an ORLC contest last week. The Pioneers defeated Bethany 21-2 on Saturday and Westminster defeated Earlham 28-2. In the victory for Transylvania, the Pioneers were led by Trenton Sneed and Brad Clements who tallied four goals each and seven assists together.
Grove City has started its inaugural season 1-1 with the victory against Franciscan on Saturday. The Wolverines were led by attack Henry Brannan with six goals and one assist while three other Grove City members contributed three goals each.

ORLC Players of the Week ...
Westminster freshman attacker Shane Fisher (Palm Harbor, Fla. / East Lake) has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on offense. The freshman registered seven goals, five assists, and four ground balls last week. Fisher tallied six goals and five assists for 11 total points in Westminster's 28-2 win over Earlham on Saturday. For the week, the freshman totaled 16 shots, nine shots on goal, and caused two turnovers. The Westminster College Titans (1-2, 1-0 ORLC) will return to action at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Thiel's sophomore goalkeeper Cole O'Connor (Midlovian, Va. / James River) led the Tomcats in goal last week and has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on defense. The sophomore made 24 saves and faced a total of 78 shots in two games last week. In an 8-7 loss to Oberlin on Wednesday, O'Connor made 15 saves for Tomcats defense. On Saturday, Thiel defeated Muskingum 13-3 and the sophomore tallied nine saves. For the week, he owned a .686 save percentage and a goals-against average of 5.50. The Thiel Tomcats (1-3, 0-0 ORLC) will return to action on Saturday at home against Transylvania at 1 p.m.
In other ORLC news ...
Transylvania was selected as this year's favorite in the ORLC men's preseason coaches' poll, which was voted on by the league's head coaches. The results of the preseason coaches' poll were unveiled along with the league's players to watch list on Feb. 9. The Pioneers, led by head coach Terry Justice, received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes and 116 total points. Transylvania has claimed the last three ORLC Championship Tournament titles.
The ORLC features three new programs this season – Chatham University (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Earlham College (Richmond, Ind.), and Grove City College (Grove City, Pa.). Chatham is led by Phil Dodson while Jason Grace leads Earlham, and Alec Jernstedt leads Grove City in its inaugural season.
ORLC to receive bid to NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ...
For the second time since the creation of the ORLC in 2014, the winner of the ORLC Championship Tournament will receive one of just 29 automatic qualifying bids to this year's NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ... The 40-team championship bracket is scheduled to be announced on Sunday, May 6 with first round games scheduled for Saturday, May 12.
