GREENWOOD, Ind. - Transylvania University (8-3, 4-0 ORLC) won two Ohio River Lacrosse Conference matchups last week against Mount St. Joseph and W&J to extend the Pioneers win streak to seven.
In the two victories, the Pioneers were led by senior attacker Clark Watts registered seven goals, one assist, and eight ground balls. Midfielder Zack Riggs led the Transylvania defense with 12 ground balls in the wins.
In other ORLC news …
Thiel College (9-2, 4-0 ORLC) also sit atop the ORLC standings and defeated Westminster and Mount St. Joseph last week. Goalkeeper Cole O'Connor led the Tomcat defense in the ORLC victories last week. The freshman recorded a .618 save percentage and 21 saves.
Westminster College (6-5, 2-2 ORLC) went 1-1 in ORLC play last week, and the Titan's defeated Bethany 18-8 on Saturday. Midfielder Ryan Shorts led the Titan offense with seven goals, three assists, and four ground balls.
Saint Vincent (5-7, 3-1 ORLC) defeated Franciscan 22-7 in a non-conference matchup last Wednesday. The Bearcats were led by Jeremy Kennedy who tallied six goals, one assist, and four ground balls in the victory.
ORLC Players of the Week ...
Transylvania University senior attacker Clark Watts (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) helped lead the Pioneers to conference victories over W&J and Mount St. Joseph last week and has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on offense. The senior registered seven goals, one assist, and eight ground balls in the two ORLC contests last week. Watts tallied three scores and one assist in a 24-3 win over the Lions on Wednesday, and contributed four more goals in the 14-7 road win over W&J on Saturday. Transylvania (8-3, 4-0 ORLC) will return to action at Bethany on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Thiel College's freshman goalkeeper Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va. / James River) helped the Tomcats to conference victories over Mount St. Joseph and Westminster last week and has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on defense. O'Connor recorded a .618 save percentage last week in Thiel's two ORLC victories. The freshman tallied 13 saves in Wednesday's 9-8 victory at Westminster, and recorded eight saves in Saturday's 18-5 road victory at Mount St. Joseph. Thiel (9-2, 4-0 ORLC) will return to action on Wednesday at home against Bethany at 5 p.m.
ORLC to receive bid to NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ...
For the first time since the creation of the ORLC in 2014, the winner of the ORLC Championship Tournament will receive one of just 29 automatic qualifying bids to this year's NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ... The 40-team championship bracket is scheduled to be announced on Sunday, May 7 with first round games scheduled for Friday-Saturday, May 12-13.
