ORLC Men's Report (Week 2) - Thiel Remains Undefeated On the Season

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Thiel (5-0) continues to be undefeated for the opening of the 2017 men's lacrosse season.  In the Tomcats two contests last week, they defeated Muskingum 18-5 and Alfred St. 11-5. Senior attacker Edward Kargbo led the Thiel offense last week with nine goals in the victories, and junior goalkeeper Charles Wistner tallied his fifth win on the season.

In other ORLC news …

Hanover (1-4) junior midfielder Chad Szczublewski (La Grange, Ky. / Oldham County) finished with 5 goals in a 15-10 victory over Wilmington (Ohio) last week. Al Alessia also added four goals, while Bret Schell contributed two goals and three assists in the win for the Panthers.

Transylvania (2-3) fell to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday 8-3, and Saint Vincent dropped two contests last week against Methodist and Hood.

ORLC Players of the Week ...
Offense

Thiel College senior attacker Edward Kargbo (Alexandria, Va. / T.C. Williams) led the Tomcats to two non-conference wins last week and has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on offense. The senior scored nine goals and added five assists in the two contests for the Tomcats. Kargbo contributed eight points (four goals, four assists) in the 18-5 win over Muskingum, and six points (five goals, one assist) in an 11-5 win over Alfred State.

Defense

Thiel College junior goalkeeper Charles Wistner (Buffalo, N.Y. / Orchard Park) helped the Tomcats to two non-conference victories last week and has been named the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on defense. Wistner recorded a 72.7 save percentage, and tallied 24 saves for the week.  The junior faced a total of 47 shots in the two contests, and is currently undefeated in the net. His overall save percentage (68.3) leads the ORLC.

ORLC to receive bid to NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ... 
For the first time since the creation of the ORLC in 2014, the winner of the ORLC Championship Tournament will receive one of just 29 automatic qualifying bids to this year's NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship ... The 40-team championship bracket is scheduled to be announced on Sunday, May 7 with first round games scheduled for Friday-Saturday, May 12-13.
